About Me
Hi! My name is Leah Wilson, and I'm a student in UWF's GIS Certificate program. After finishing my certificate, I hope to use GIS to work in urban planning and help design cities to be more practical, sustainable, and enjoyable for the people who live in them. I have lived in many places around the US, including Winston-Salem, North Carolina (my hometown); Chicago (where I went to college); St. Paul, Minnesota; Salida, Colorado; New York City; and now a rural area outside of Richmond, Virginia, where I work at an organic vegetable farm.
So far in this program, I've really enjoyed getting to play with spatial data, learning how to make aesthetically pleasing maps, and learning how to write Python scripts to complete geoprocessing tasks. I hope to gain an even better understanding of ArcGIS Pro and its real-world applications in these next classes!
For a fun snapshot of my life from a time when I loved maps but had not yet discovered GIS, I made a story map using ArcGIS Online of my favorite places from my semester abroad in Trondheim, Norway in 2019.
